As a leader in Classics education for over a decade, we also have unparalleled knowledge of the discipline and access to resources in the community. Timo Calder
After graduating from Dartmouth in 2010, Timo taught history in Singapore on a Princeton in Asia Fellowship. Then he moved to Beijing, where he began his career in college consulting. For the past 10 years, he has worked with hundreds of students, helping them discover their unique stories and stand out in this highly competitive process.
Timo is highly trained in all aspects of the application process, including interview prep, school list selection, essay editing, recommendation requests, deferral/waitlist strategy, and so on. His favorite part of the process is helping students create long-term, unique, impactful extracurricular activities. He also has expertise in athletic recruiting, having supported dozens of students to successfully secure a likely letter from their first choice school.
His main focus is on personal development and intellectual growth. He believes that this process is a special opportunity for students to improve their character skills like self-awareness, initiative, communication, and responsibility. He also understands that parents are important stakeholders in this process and ensures that they are always consulted during this critical time.

Billy Calder
Billy has been working as a professional tutor since he earned his Masters in Acting from Harvard University and the American Repertory Theater Institute for Advanced Theater Training in 2014. Over the past decade, Billy Calder has developed a unique, process-oriented tutoring philosophy that inspires his students to maximize their potential and both set and achieve lofty goals. Whether students are looking to boost their performance on standardized tests, craft the perfect personal statement, or develop and maintain sustainable academic success, Billy’s focus on building internal motivation and creating effective habits paves the way for long-term success in the classroom and beyond. He is an expert on all middle school, high school, and college entrance exams, as well as many of the College Board’s subject-specific AP exams. Billy also uses his advanced dramatic training to help students express their voices clearly in academic essays, personal statements, and college applications. His deep experience with ADHD, dyslexia, executive function challenges, and other specific learning disabilities, along with his compassion and empathy, make him a highly effective academic coach.
Advisor
Cindy Calder
Cindy Calder founded Calder Classics in 2012 while completing her M.A. in Greek and Latin at Columbia University. Cindy taught Latin at Trinity School and the Brearley School in New York City, and she has taught many courses for Calder Classics in-person and online. She also has extensive tutoring experience in Latin and Greek.
Cindy will act as a resource, providing feedback on the activities and angles of Classics applicants to ensure that you are able to demonstrate an elite level of Classics achievement on your applications.
