After an early morning of mildly painful yoga and Latin grammar we traveled by bus to the Convent of San Marco. During the few days we have already spent here in Florence I feel as though I have appreciated more artwork than I would have in the course of a year at home and still nothing has compared to Fra Angelico’s beautiful frescos. The small rooms with dim lighting make the paintings come alive. I particularly loved the painting, Annunciation, and how it managed to get across such clear emotions through the expressions on Gabriel and Mary’s faces. The detail on Gabriel’s wings and in the scenery is just captivating.
