Calder Classics offers the following Online Programs. We are currently enrolling students for our LATIN, GREEK, and CREATIVE WRITING Online Programs offered during June, July and August, 2021. Summer 2021:
Introduction to Reading Latin, Intermediate Level
Who: Calder Classics invites students entering 8th through 12th grades who have already studied Latin for one to two years but still require more core vocabulary and grammar in order to proficiently read unadapted Latin texts. (If you are an absolute beginner, please CONTACT US to learn about individual and small group sessions to get started.)
What: In this Intermediate level Latin reading program students review and learn many new core words and rules of Latin syntax while diving into the works of Vergil, Ovid, Cicero, and more.
When: July 5-16, Monday - Friday, 8 - 10:30 am EDT
Reading Latin
Who: Students entering 9th through 12th grades with at least one year of reading original (or slightly adapted) Latin texts
What: Read, translate and discuss Latin literature in an interactive “salon” style environment.
When: Course fees are as shown. Students may choose from the following:
June 14-18, “Rome in Absentia”. Upper Level. Monday - Friday. 10:30am to 1pm (EDT). Course Fee $750.
June 21 - July 2, “Reading Caesar and Vergil”. AP Prep. Monday - Friday (does not meet on weekends). 9:00am -12pm (EDT). Course Fee: $1200.
July 5-16, “Roman Social Rituals: Eating and Drinking”. Upper Level. Monday - Friday (does not meet on weekends). Two sessions per day: 10:30am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm (EDT). Course Fee: $1200.
July 19-30, “Roman Voices”. Upper Level. Monday - Friday (does not meet on weekends). Two sessions per day: 10:30am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm (EDT). Course Fee: $1200.
Introduction to Ancient Greek
Who: Middle School, High School, Gap Year, and College/Grad students with no prior, or minimal prior experience in Ancient Greek. A diagnostic test will be provided to ensure proper placement.
What: Learn the basics of Ancient Greek Language
When: Course fees are $1200. Students may choose from the following sessions:
June 14 - June 25. Monday - Friday. 10:30 am-1pm EDT OR 8pm-10:30pm EDT
July 5 - July 16. Monday - Friday. 10:30 am-1pm EDT OR 8pm-10:30pm EDT
July 5 - July 16. LEVEL 1+2 INTENSIVE. Offered during ASIAN TIME ZONES. Covers Levels 1 AND 2. Meets twice per day, Monday - Friday. 13:00-15:30 and 18:00-20:00 UTC+8 (China Standard Time - CST).
July 19 - July 30. Monday - Friday. 10:30 am-1pm EDT OR 8pm-10:30pm EDT
August 2 - August 13. Monday - Friday. 10:30 am to 1pm EDT.
Creative Writing Workshop (—this program is completed—)
Who: High School, Gap Year, and College/Grad students with an interest in reading classical texts in translation as inspiration for drafting their own works.
What: Writing workshop with individual and group feedback culminating in a virtual reading of polished final work.
When: June 21-25, 2021 (in person in Brooklyn, or online)
