Introduction to Reading Latin, Intermediate Level
Calder Classics invites students entering 8th through 12th grades to join us for this Intermediate level Latin reading program designed for students who have already studied Latin for one to two years but still require more core vocabulary and grammar in order to proficiently read unadapted Latin texts. In this class you review and learn many new core words and rules of Latin syntax while diving into the works of Vergil, Ovid, Cicero, and more.
Each session is dedicated to moving beyond the basics of the Latin language. Students finish this course with the following in their Latin tool belt - all noun, adjective and participle declensions, verbs forms in all moods, tenses, and voices, as well as the knowledge and comprehension of other parts of speech. Delving deeper into the fundamentals of Latin syntax, you study the basic uses of all noun cases, the key reasons for using the subjunctive mood, indirect statement constructions, and the concept of relative time and sequence of tenses. Instruction follows Excelability in Advanced Latin, a textbook designed to teach students to read and enjoy the great works of Latin literature; it includes many literary excerpts from unadapted Latin authors.
This course offers students an opportunity to hone their skills quickly through intensive personal attention, one-on-one help, and a high student/teacher ratio. With a foundation strong enough to read proficiently, students enjoy excerpts from such Latin poets as Catullus, Vergil, and Ovid. Complete this course and you will have a much deeper knowledge of Latin (and English) grammar and vocabulary.
Who Should Take This Course?
This course is perfect for students who have already had one to two years of Latin instruction and are seeking a head start or extra help for their Latin courses at school next year, or for students who simply want to learn for their own enjoyment. It is also a wonderful taste of Latin for students interested in continuing to learn a complex inflected language on their own or for students who are considering future Upper Level Calder Classics Reading Latin online and/or travel programs!

Testimonials - Calder Classics Online
In Intro to Latin I found it really helpful that our teacher came into our breakout rooms every so often to make sure we understood the exercise we were doing. If we were struggling with a translation, he would guide us through it. I think the one on one attention was very effective. We moved from concept to concept at a steady pace, slowly enough so that we could absorb the new information, but also fast enough so that we remained engaged for the entirety of the course.
This course was very clear and effective. I really liked that all of the information was in one place (just one textbook and not multiple). There was a good balance of independent work and group work as well.
This class was a great way to help me feel confident when reading and translating Latin.
Classes are very interactive and fun, great way to enjoy the summer with some people while learning at the same time!
